As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
– Jesus, John 17:18 ESV
Equipping leads to Sending
When Jesus prayed for His disciples as He was about to bear the cross, He sent them, and by extension all Christians, in to the world just as He was sent in to the world by His Father. Christians everywhere are called to intentionally engage the mission God has put before them – to make disciples in the workplace, the neighborhood, the community, and throughout the world. The members of Calvary Chapel of La Pine devote themselves to this commission as ones who are purposefully sent, whether across the street, across an ocean or anywhere in between, in order to be Christ’s ambassadors who faithfully proclaim and embody the good news of the Gospel. As we are continually equipping, so should we continually be sending.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
– Jesus, Acts 1:8 ESV
It is our desire that we would not have an unbalanced view of outreach/missions. If our focus is only on our community we are not being faithful to “…make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). If our focus is only across an ocean we are may not be faithful to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).We see in the early church that those who were changed by the truth of the Gospel were compelled to proclaim the truth of the Gospel anywhere and everywhere; to those in their own communities and to the nations. In light of this we have a threefold view of outreach/missions. We endeavor to be a sending church – locally, regionally, and globally.
Calvary Chapel La Pine supports Water of Life. We support this ministry financially and by sending workers into he harvest. They work with children and youth in Cambodia.
From their website:
“Our desire is to help people but only Jesus can fill their lives with hope. For that reason, the heartbeat of our ministry is the study of God’s word. Jesus said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” Such has been the impact of God’s word on our lives here at Water of Life. Each night the ministry center hosts student- led Bible studies and worship times. Our boys and girls take turns teaching from passages read in their one-year, daily Bible reading plan. It’s been amazing to see the healing power of God’s word changing their lives in ways secular programs and counseling could never do. Because of their love for Jesus and desire to serve Him,a church has been birthed and many of the students are now serving as children’s ministry workers, worship leaders, youth group leaders, sound technicians and even pastors! The work is now spreading to various provinces and villages as they desire to share the life changing message of the gospel with whoever will listen.”
